Did you know our talented lumberjacks and lumberjills are highly recognized in the logger sports community? Their skills and stunts are 100% real and are sure to amaze! For those curious about what to expect during our Lumberjack Feud dinner show, here is a behind-the-scenes look at some of the jaw-dropping, action-packed events. The lumberjacks are divided into 2 families– the Dawsons and the McGraws– and will compete in these events, with the final score determining who wins the feud!
Lumberjack Axe Skills
1. Underhand Chop
The underhand chop, also called the horizontal chop, is a classic logger sport where the lumberjack must chop a bolt of wood in two, swinging the axe between their feet and switching sides halfway. Whoever completes the task first wins the event for their family!
2. Standing Block
The standing block chop is similar to the underhand chop, except that the wood block is set vertically. This requires the lumberjack to use a different technique to sever the log in the most efficient way. Both of these chopping events require immense strength and precision!
3. Spring Board
The spring board chop is one of the most difficult timber sports you’ll see at our Lumberjack Feud dinner show. This incredible axe skill is also one of the most fun to watch! The lumberjack must axe two notches into the log, big enough to place springboard platforms so that he can chop the log in sections, beginning at the top and working his way down.
4. Cross Cut
The cross cut is a doubles event that uses a large two-person saw. Our jacks and jills must work in tandem to saw through the thick log– an incredible fete of power and teamwork!
5. Hot Saw
Instead of an axe or hand saw, this event is done with a high-powered chain saw; don’t worry, our lumberjacks are experts and always use safety equipment during every aspect of the show! During the hot saw portion of the show, you’ll watch them cut large round disks called “cookies” from the log, often in precise widths.
Loggersports
6. Log Roll
A favorite stunt at our lumberjack show is the log roll! The competitors face each other on a long log that is placed in the water, and they must keep their balance while also trying to knock the other person off of the log. Any tactic is fair game, except for actually touching the opponent!
7. Speed Climb
The speed climb is a challenging pole climb that will have you on the edge of your seat. Our lumberjacks have special spikes on their shoes and are wearing harnesses as they compete to see who can climb the pole the fastest, and it’s approximately as high as a telephone pole!
8. Boom Run
Last but certainly not least is the boom run, a high-energy skill that is definitely much harder than it looks! The lumberjacks must use all of their balance and control skills to cross 4 logs across choppy waters without falling.
